Creating Your First Trip
Creating a trip in TVL takes less than a minute. Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Open the New Trip dialog
From your dashboard, click the + New Trip button in the top right corner. A dialog will appear asking for your trip details.
Step 2: Fill in your trip details
- Destination — Start typing a city, country, or landmark. TVL will suggest matching locations automatically.
- Trip name — Give your trip a name (e.g. Japan Spring 2025 or Europe Backpacking)
- Start and end dates — Pick your travel window. You can adjust these later.
- Trip type — Choose from Leisure, Business, Drive, or Adventure.
Step 3: Save and explore
Click Create Trip and you will be taken to your trip detail page. From here you can:
- Open the AI Planner to generate an itinerary
- Add expenses to track your budget
- Start your travel journal
- Invite collaborators
- Upload boarding passes
Tips
- You can have multiple trips open at the same time — past, present, and future
- The dashboard shows your current trip and your next upcoming trip
- You can create multiple active trips.
